Bürgernutzen: The Music, Explained

We really try to pack a punch into our lyrics--some might be too obvious, some might be too confusing. Here are new words to explain our old words.

What is our music about

We never would have considered ourselves “punks” or “metal heads”; and yet, there’s something about this 21st century tumult that inspires political ramblings on top of heavy bass tones & crispy drums. The coordinated chaos in our music feels like a reflection of, not simply a response to, the current state of affairs.

Although we find time for the lighter topics in life (a la Soup’s Up!), much of our music focuses on naming, analyzing, and critiquing the capitalist hellscape we find ourselves in. Our first released track, Landlord Land War, highlights the connection between property, The State, and the genocide being committed in Palestine. Other songs provide a critique of the police (waste of money/not our friends) as well as public transportation. “Give me a f***ing train, inside my car I hurt my brain!”

Political Ramblings/Lyrics

Landlord Land War–This song’s essence is in its title. Land, not religion, has been the true impetus for most of the wars fought on Earth for thousands of years. Although differences in faith have often been put forward as the motive for most violent conflict, the land and its resources are what people have always been fighting over. This has been the dominant marching order for the US military since before it officially existed. From manifest destiny to the support for the war in Ukraine and the genocide in Palestine, The State is hell-bent on securing, maintaining, and expanding their resource holdings and extraction. At a microcosmic level, all landlords take part in this process of extraction. Renters’ hard-earned money is siphoned off to wealthy landlords on a monthly basis. Obviously the experiences of the working class in the west are not the same as Palestinians living under occupation. However, the threat of violence that is eviction, wielded freely by landlords, is part of the expansive, insidious class warfare waged against the poor in the name of capitalism around the globe. Furthermore, every US president has engaged in this system of global exploitation, and they will engage in it for as long as that office exists…

One, two, three, four!

Landlord land war!

Five, six, seven, eight!

F*** the hate and f*** the state!

Red, blue, green, yellow!

Money for war? We say hell no!

Purple, orange, and chartreuse!

Free the people, free the youth!

We hold these truths to be self-evident;

No such thing as a good US President!

So irrelevant, votin’ for the hell of it.

No embellishment; let’s set a f***ing precedent now!

A, b, c, d!

Palestine will be free!

E, f, g, h!

F*** the hate and f*** the state!
